Thank you for your interest in taking part in the requirements analysis for the further development of the online self-assessments (SAMs) for the bachelor's degree programs at RWTH Aachen University.

Prospective students can use a SAM to find out about the specific requirements of a degree program and solve subject-related test tasks online. After completing the test, prospective students receive feedback on their personal requirements regarding the desired course of study. In addition, completion of the degree-specific SAM is a requirement for enrollment in a bachelor's degree program at our university.

In order to develop the SAMs for the bachelor's degree programs at RWTH Aachen University, we need your help:

Procedure:

  • On the following pages, after answering a few demographic questions, you will be asked how important certain abilities, study-related personality traits and study-related interests are for successfully completing the bachelor's degree program you have selected at RWTH Aachen University. In addition, you will be asked about your opinions regarding course-related information and expectations.

Duration: approx. 30 min

  • As a thank you, we are giving away the following among all participating students in the survey: 30 x 10 € voucher of your choice
  • If you are interested, you will be asked to provide your e-mail address at the end of the survey, which will be stored separately from the survey. It is only possible to take part in the draw after completing the survey.

  • There are no right or wrong answers, it is only about your personal assessment of the requirements of one of the bachelor's degree programs you have selected at RWTH Aachen University.

  • In order to evaluate the data meaningfully, we depend on your open assessment. We therefore ask you to answer the questions truthfully. Please do not think about what answer might make the “best impression”.

3. Subject and purpose of the processing of personal data

The data is used for the requirements analysis and further development of the online self-assessments (SAMs) for bachelor's degree programs at RWTH Aachen University. The results are also used for research purposes (publications and presentations) in the course of the general SAM further development. If you would also like to take part in the raffle, your e-mail address (separated from the survey data) will be used in the course of the raffle.

4. Pseudonymity of the data

The survey is pseudonymized. No direct personal data such as names are collected. The collected demographic data is processed in such a way that it would take a disproportionate amount of effort to draw conclusions about you. If you wish to take part in the raffle, your e-mail address will be stored separately from the survey data.

5. Type of data processed

The following data is collected:

Demographic data:

  • Gender identification (female, male, other, prefer not to answer)
  • Year of birth

Choice of degree program for further assessments and evaluations:

  • Selected bachelor's degree program for assessment
  • Information on whether the selected degree program is currently being studied

Assessments and evaluations:

  • assessments of the importance and frequency of certain abilities, personality traits and interests for successful studies
  • free text entries on further abilities, personality traits, expectations and information on the course of study. Note: Please avoid providing information in free text fields that could be used to identify you or third parties.

If you take part in the prize draw:

  • e-mail address (stored separately from the survey data)

6. Recipients of the data

The data will be processed exclusively by the responsible scientists of the CLS - Center for Teaching and Learning Services, including research assistants of the Center of RWTH Aachen University, and will not be passed on to third parties. The scientific teaching staff will only receive information from this survey in a processed, anonymized and non-individual form.

8. Data deletion and storage period

The pseudonymized data is stored for a period of 10 years to enable long-term research and publications and is deleted after this period.

9. Legal basis

For the processing of personal data in connection with the above-mentioned research project, consent is required in accordance with Art. 6 para. 1 sentence 1 lit. a) DSGVO and serves as the legal basis.

10. Rights of the data subject

If personal data is processed by the undersigned, he is the data subject within the meaning of the GDPR and has the following rights vis-à-vis the controller.

Pursuant to Article 15 ff. of the GDPR, the data subject has the right to request from the controller, under the conditions defined therein, access to the personal data concerning him or her, as well as the rectification or erasure of such data or the restriction of processing, a right to object to processing and the right to data portability. Pursuant to Article 77 of the GDPR, the data subject also has the right to lodge a complaint with the data protection supervisory authority (https://www.ldi.nrw.de/) if the data subject considers that the processing of personal data relating to him or her infringes this regulation. If the processing is based on the consent of the data subject (see Art. 6 para. 1 lit. a, Art. 9 para. 2 lit. a GDPR), he/she also has the right to revoke the consent at any time without incurring any disadvantages and without affecting the lawfulness of the processing carried out on the basis of the consent until revocation; this only takes effect in the future.
